Discussion Sessions ^
Discussion subjects vary with each practicum based on the participants' work experiences and educational needs. Each discussion topic will be at least one hour long. Topics might include:

- Parenteral Nutrition

- Human Milk Fortification & Use of Infant Formulas
- Feeding Issues
- Iron
Day 4
- Hyperbilirubinemia
- Fluid and Metabolism
Day 5
- Post-Discharge Nutrition
- Calcium and Phosphorus Issues
Additional topics to be covered during either formal discussion or nursery rounds include energy requirements, vitamin and mineral needs, neonatal medical problems and associated nutritional concerns such as necrotizing enterocolitis, and respiratory distress syndrome.
Attending rounds includes team rounds in the NICU and informal discussion led by the attending neonatologist on medical and nutritional assessment of infants in the NICU. The pediatric residents, neonatology fellows, nurse practitioners, neonatal nurses, neonatal nutritionist, and practicum participants will attend these rounds.
