Needs and Target Audience ^

Due to changes in neonatal nutrition management, healthcare professionals who provide care to high-risk infants need to have up-to-date continuing education. The interdisciplinary approach of this conference will address the needs of pediatricians, neonatologists, neonatal nurses, nurse practioners, dietitians, and others.

Objectives ^

At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:

  • define basic nutritional requirements for neonatal growth,
  • describe specific nutritional problems faced by low birthweight and premature infants, and
  • identify approaches to addressing the nutritional concerns for premature infants after hospital discharge.

Evaluation ^

Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.

Accreditation/Credit Designation ^

Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.

Texas Children’s Hospital designates this educational activity for a maximum of 18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Continuing Professional Education ^

Baylor College of Medicine (BA001) is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 18 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program.

A potential of 18.4 CNE contact hours are available to nurses attending the symposium. CNE credits will be awarded for each presentation attended. Participants must complete an evaluation and initial the certificate for each presentation attended and must turn in the original (white) copy of the certificate (retain the yellow copy for his or her records). CNE hours and requirements are listed for each offering.

Texas Children’s Hospital is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
